Spanners (released in January 1995 via Warp Records) represents another foundational pillar of IDM (Intelligent Dance Music). However, its presentation is conceptually opposite to the mathematical hyper-realism of Syro. While Aphex Twin opted for an overload of raw technical data, the original trio of The Black Dog (Ken Downie, Ed Handley, and Andy Turner) shrouded their masterpiece in cryptic mysticism, internal codes, and a mythology of their own.
